In the preparation of iron ore, contaminated surface water travels at high velocity through channels to collection basins. The sharp-edged iron ore is highly abrasive to the concrete surfaces there. Frequent repairs are required as a result. Kalenborn lined the floor of the channels with smooth, wear-resistant ABRESIST fused cast basalt moulded elements. Iron ore is a key raw material which is extracted as rock from ore mines. Various industrial processing steps refine the ore till it is in the form of pressed pellets. It is in this form that the ore is used for the manufacture of steel. Our customer is the world’s leading producer of iron ore pellets. Right from the founding of Kalenborn do Brasil 15 years ago, the company has been supplying the producer with wear protection solutions for various pieces of plant.

In the mining industry, huge dump trucks are used with loading shovels to move rock and spoil. These heavy machines transport many tonnes of material and are therefore exposed to serious wear. One of the biggest mining companies in Brazil turned to the engineers at Kalenborn do Brasil for a very special assignment: to equip its fleet of trucks with protection.

Bauxite is a sharp-edged aluminium ore that causes considerable wear to equipment during transportation and loading/unloading. That is why impact baffle plates are used to decelerate the flow of material to the next handover point and thus lessen the abrasive force of the ore. To make sure these last as long as possible, we fitted the steel components with additional lining consisting of oxide ceramic KALOCER moulded sections.

Potassium salts are recovered in mining and are a major component of many fertilizers. For refining, the salts are separated from other solids in several stages.
